Overview

SSH: Secure Shell is a cryptographic network protocol for secure data communication.
This allow you to connect and control your BeagleBone with just a USB cable.
This is a very common way to connect to your BeagleBone.

What you will need

Steps to follow

  1. Download Putty and save it to your desktop.
  2. Connect the USB cable to the BeagleBone
  3. Connect the USB cable to your computer
  4. Upload the BONE_DRV driver to your computer(only required the first time). The driver is located on the Computer->BeagleBone Getting Started (E:) drive. Navigate to the Drivers folder, Windows (or Linux or MacOSX) folder and click on BONE_DRV to install this driver.
  5. Start Putty
  6. Putty icon
  7. Choose Connection type: SSH
    then enter the address of your BeagleBone 192.168.7.2 in Host Name (or IP address)
    Click OPEN (click OK for warning message)

  8. You can customize the putty session to automatically enter 'root' for you. Under Connection, Data enter "root" in the Auto-login username. Then, give this a name under "saved Sessions" , click save. (this step is optional)
  9. User is : root and password: {press enter}
